Blood Is On Our Hands

Rohingya 03:26
A celebrated winner of the Nobel Peace Prize Was used as an apologist for genocide - Power still in the grip of the military Who have no limits to their barbarity. Burning villages. Butchered children. Rape and torture - A ruthless and systematic campaign Of ethnic cleansing in the Government’s name. This is “unfinished business” - that’s what the army says As they murder innocent families, and set their homes ablaze. A mass exodus of half a million refugees, Whilst the generals deny what the whole world sees. Crimes against humanity - that’s what they are. Military brutality still rules in Myanmar.

Our culture has waged a war On those who lived the tribal way, And all but wiped them from the Earth As if they had no right to stay. Those who live within the limits of nature, And who don’t try to conquer the Earth - Whose culture has survived many thousands of years - Must surely know something of worth. Condemned as uncivilised and backward - As if their traditional life was a crime. In doing so we’ve thrown away knowledge Which has stood the test of time. Is our modern so-called “civilisation” Really all that great, When it’s brought such destruction to the World? We need new lessons before it’s too late.

To preserve our standard of living Horrors take place in our name. The public, afraid to look at the truth, Turn a blind eye to the shame. To preserve our standard of living Our culture surrounds us with lies To justify acts which inevitably Dictate how the other half dies. To preserve our standard of living TV acts as an anaesthetic. A public obsessed with soap operas Will always remain apathetic. To preserve our standard of living The Earth we depend on is dying. For how long can we keep ignoring the facts? For how long can we keep denying?

No nation has ever gone to war on a wave of altruism. Don’t be fooled as to the motives - vested interests are at play. Whether to secure resources or protect financial interests, That’s how it’s always been, and how it still is today. They claim the moral high ground to try to convince us that they’re right, But it is just a smokescreen for the battles they’re to fight. They need willing bodies prepared to die on foreign soil, But how many would freely give their lives to protect the price of oil?
5.
Imports from the developing world Often cost so little to buy. The people there live in abject poverty - Do you ever wonder why? To ignore is to be ignorant Of the true cost of our demands. Exploited labour and resources - Perhaps it goes without saying That if we can get things for so little Then someone else must be paying.

Animals are captured in the wild and physically restrained, And then shipped halfway round the world to keep us entertained. Taken from their natural habitat, with no right to choose, To be put on display for us in circuses and zoos. There’s no room for this in a civilised world. It’s time to close them down. I just can’t see the attraction of watching animals in cages. This is the 21st Century, and not the middle ages. The selfishness of people can so easily be seen In this cruelty and barbarism, which really is obscene. Is looking at animals behind bars really a pleasant sight? Keeping them as prisoners simply can’t be right. Docile, depressed creatures - don’t be fooled that they’re content. Their lives have become a spectacle, so meaninglessly spent.
