New Puppets - Same Old Machine

by Active Minds

Voted out of power, they try to re-invent themselves as the party of the future not the past - complaining about the mess we’re in, as if it’s not to do with them. Do they expect us to forget things quite so fast? It’s as if they think that we’ve all had our memories erased. Or is it some of them that’s had that done? Some try to apologise, others just tell downright lies, and some of them are just plain fucking dumb. Like a phoenix from the ashes, they ascend with a new plan with which to make amends. They replace the leader, and then think we won’t recognise them. Slimy, two-faced careerists - don’t you just despise them? They tell us that they’ve learnt from mistakes of the past. Well, why don’t we, the public, do the same? The problems that we’re facing haven’t grown up overnight, and it’s this same bunch of arseholes that’s to blame.

“Economic migrants” - a term that causes outrage: readers of the Daily Mail see it searing off the page. They’re appalled that people come here just to get a better living - foaming mouths spew out opinions neither charitable nor forgiving. Tebbit, that darling of the right-wing press - do you remember what he said? When his dad was out of work he didn’t mope around. Instead, he “got on his bike” to find a job to support his family. Isn’t that what people are doing now? That’s not difficult to see. Is it really hard to understand? What would you do if you lived in a land where a life of poverty was the expectation? Wouldn’t you try to change your situation? It seems that for most people here this migration should be a one-way street - where Brits can buy cheap homes abroad, retire and put up their feet. Or businesses set up there to exploit favourable conditions. There’s no sympathy for those in very different positions.

There are sharks on my TV and they’re preying on the poor with instant loans at outrageous interest rates. If you’ve got money problems then they’ll bring you many more, as the amount you owe quickly accumulates. If you can’t afford the shopping, or are struggling with the rent, then how about a loan at 1,000 per cent? In just a few weeks time what you owe can quickly double - how’s that for a way to get out of money trouble? There are sharks on my TV and they’re preying on the vulnerable and desperate - those who have nowhere else to try. This rip-off business practice is wholly unacceptable - the normal codes of ethics just don’t seem to apply.

War and murder on our TV screens - we become blind to the pain. Half the world struggling to meet their needs - famine is news again. What have we become? What has become of the world we dreamed of? Is this to be our legacy? Half the world starving and half the world blind - and all living in misery? Where is the love and the compassion? There seems so little here. Selfishness is the latest fashion - that much, at least, is clear.

We may be older and more wise. We may have learned to compromise, but that doesn’t mean we’ll accept their lies because we’re still fucking angry. And we don’t think that it’s naive to have values in which to believe. Is it so hard for you to conceive that we’re still fucking angry? It really isn’t so profound when there’s injustice all around. So, even though we’re no longer in the flush of youth, this is still our truth. ANGRY. We’ve been shouting out loud now for so long against all the things that we think are wrong, but these feelings we have are still so strong. Yes, we’re still fucking angry. With so much shit going on today there’s still so much that we have to say, so don’t expect us to go away when we’re still fucking angry.
