Where the long-term needs of working people are conveniently forgotten.
Eternal gratitude’s expected just because you have a job,
Because, if not, you may be forced to meet the firing squad.

Our power is weakened when they divide us into tribes.
To turn dissent to acceptance is always what they’re trying to do –
Are you sure it isn’t happening to you?
Growing up, the stories that I was told
Were that the kids in the 60’s had changed the world.
So then who voted for Reagan?
And, after Tory rule for nearly two decades,
“Things can only get better” was the promise made –
Well, it seems they were mistaken.
Can we spot the time when we start to acquiesce –
When we no longer resist their efforts to oppress?
When we fear losing what we have more than we want things to be fair?
Can we spot the time when we cease to really care?
Are you content with the way things are?
They’re trying to buy your passive acceptance.

There is a story behind every refugee
Of a desperation so great that they had to flee.
On the run, faced with untold dangers,
They can only hope to meet the kindness of strangers,
So we shouldn’t recoil in fear.
Refugees should be welcome here,
Because if that doesn’t break your heart, then you haven’t got one.
