What If We Decide...?

Excuse me, Mr. Branson, but did you not see the memo That said we only had twelve years to save the world From catastrophic climate change? Because on the news only a few weeks later I saw your smug little face, Saying that you were winning the race To send tourists into space. So tell me, Mr. Branson, how does this help with what is needed? How much damage will be done when you’ve succeeded? Some people have more money than they know what to do with, And will think nothing of burning thousands of litres of fuel For a 15 minute trip. We need to get a grip. What further proof does anybody need Of the price we pay to accommodate such greed? What hope is there for the restraint that is demanded When the ego has landed? There’s no such thing as a selfless billionaire, So we shouldn’t kid ourselves that they really care. They’ve been indulged for far too long in their gross, selfish behaviours, There’s no such thing as a selfless billionaire – They aggressively seek far more than their fair share, And yet now they try to present themselves as our future saviours. And when the world looks on with such admiration At those with personal wealth far greater than whole nations, Then what hope is there for the restraint that is demanded?

Fuck Q 03:35
In the fast expanding world of internet propaganda It seems that he who shouts the loudest gets to set the agenda. I’m no friend of the establishment, but Jesus fucking wept… How can so many fall for “theories” that are so totally inept? I don’t think that I’m naïve about the workings of the State, But there’s something totally unhinged about those who believe in Pizzagate. Like the members of a cult, they are deluding one another – With those who are so gullible there’s no need for a Big Brother. Chat rooms full of hate add fuel to every little neurosis Until the end result resembles a form of mass-induced psychosis, And rabid mobs take to the streets demanding recompense For mass crimes that they’ve imagined and which don’t make any sense. This is not part of some honourable tradition of defiance – Those who proclaim their scepticism towards the voices of science Will blindly follow the mad rantings of a nut like Alex Jones, And accept, without question, the word of crazy keyboard clones. When a little knowledge goes far further than it should, Then a grasp on reality can become as clear as mud And result in crackpot thinking that becomes the latest craze. Lunatics are viewed by some as prophets nowadays. With social media exploited by psychopaths and liars, What would once have been irrelevant can now spread like wild fires Until they reach a point where they demand the whole world’s attention. Could it be that the road to hell is paved with good inventions?

Where is your God in this? The global death toll mounting. Do you see his hand in guidance? 6 million dead, and counting. The holy and the pious Have all been forsaken. Do you still believe in his mercy, Or has your faith been shaken?

What if we decide not to return to the way things were? What if we decide that now’s the time to change? What if we choose to act on some of the things we’ve learned? What if we don’t want to go back to more of the same? Make no mistake, 2020 was a terrible year, But it may have helped some things to become clear – Like the importance of those who provide food or healthcare, And how much we all need a safety net of social welfare. What if we decide not to return to the way things were? What if we think that it’s time for something new? What if we decide that creating a society that is more fair Is something that we now want to do? Community trumps individualism when the going gets tough, So when things are scarce it’s important that everyone has enough. Did it take this crisis to appreciate the contribution that’s made By so many of the most poorly paid? And vapid social influencers can offer no contribution When we encounter times of genuine confusion. Perhaps this can help realign our priorities To safeguard everyone’s basic necessities. What if we decide not to return to the way things were? What if we decide that now’s the time to change?

The Tories’ “Hostile Environment” Was an exercise in cruelty and spite, Where innocent people were hounded To appease voices of the hard right. The easiest of targets were aimed at, And used as pawns in a sick game – And, once they appeared in the crosshairs, Their lives would never be the same. The Tories’ “Hostile Environment” Was all about being seen to act tough – Overstating the threat from “illegals”, And saying “enough is enough”. But, when pensioners who’ve lived all their lives here Are told they no longer belong, It shouldn’t have taken a roomful of geniuses To see what they were doing was wrong. The Tories’ “Hostile Environment” Was just about political points scored, And, in their eagerness to doctor the figures, The true human cost was ignored. When the authorities had destroyed all the paperwork, It should have been simply deduced That, for those who needed this evidence, It could never again be produced.

We shouldn’t wage war on nature – The world wasn’t created for humanity’s sake. Don’t fuck with the system – the eco-system. We should respect biodiversity, And not treat all life as ours to abuse. No matter how dominant mankind appears, Never think that we’re too big to fail.

Have you seen those loonies from the Westboro Baptist Church? You know the ones – the “God Hates Fags” brigade? Brainwashing their kids to become fundamentalist morons, And what a good job of it they’ve made. What motivates them to follow Self-styled prophets talking shit? Were their lives really so hollow That this would make more sense of it? Did you hear about the Heaven’s Gate cult Who believed they were not of the human race? They killed themselves when they saw a comet So that they could hitch a ride to outer space.

So the age of Trump is over, and most of us survived - From the rank stupidity to the bare-faced lies. Some people swallowed all his bullshit and devoured every tweet. Some may have even heeded his advice when he suggested drinking bleach. As this human wrecking ball departs the scene Can the world now wake up from a four year long bad dream? A toddler in the White House – throwing his toys out of the pram. A loud mouth on the world stage, giving it the big “I am”. Now we know what happens when the highest office in the land Goes to an immature bully, whose ego’s out of hand. I always try to see from another’s point of view – Try to see how the world looks when standing in their shoes. But, try as I might, I can’t imagine what it is to be Someone who looks at Donald Trump and is impressed by what they see. Yes, the end was pretty ugly – but his true colours were shown, As his most obedient followers were rapidly disowned. Did you really think that someone with this level of conceit Would ever have the humility to accept defeat? Thank fuck that’s over.
