about

If you asked multinational corporations to design a trading arrangement between countries which works perfectly for themselves, it would be a single market, without trade barriers or tariffs, with a common currency. Does that sound familiar? Ideally they’d also like a single, common government with only one set of regulations and tax laws - and that is a direction which many people in the EU are pushing for it to take. A single language would no doubt also suit the corporations very well, but that is something that they wouldn’t dare push because it would spark such a backlash.
Corporations lobby for the creation of single free markets between countries because it allows them to easily relocate production to places with lower costs and lower wages, whilst still enjoying free, unfettered access to more lucrative markets in which to sell their goods. It gives corporations more power than elected governments in many ways, in that corporations enjoy the legal “right” to relocate and invest wherever they like, and individual governments become quite powerless to stop them.
Internationalism and economic globalism are not the same thing. Those who argue that, because we wish to show solidarity with people in other countries, we need to be in a common economic bloc with them are playing in to the hands of corporate interests who don’t give a shit about the plight of the poor and oppressed.

lyrics

The globalisation of economics is a dream of huge corporations who want to exploit the breaking down of the barriers between nations. A single market most benefits those who have the most to sell. No trade tariffs and a single currency help them more as well. Don’t be conned into thinking that it’s benign internationalism - it’s a vital component of the growth of global capitalism.
