about
Many Western countries, such as Britain, exist on wealth which arose from centuries of imperialist expansion and conquest. Poorer countries were exploited and oppressed by others who frequently believed they had a right to do this because they were more civilised.
As geo-political and military empires have retreated they have left, in their place, business empires - a more modern, but no less effective, way of ensuring that wealth and power remains pretty much where it always has been. The world’s major corporations have more wealth and power than many of the countries in which they operate, and make sure that the bulk of the benefits arising from their operations accrue to those nations which are already the richest.
To create a world of justice, these imbalances of power must end.
lyrics
The history of human civilisation is largely one of imperialist aggression - the power-hungry and the powerless. No wonder the world’s in such a mess. There’s no need to mourn when the empires are gone - let’s tear them all down, every last one.
