about
We are surrounded by a gross culture of super-rich celebrities showing off their wealth. It is a club which people aspire to joining, and with our modern-day celebrity culture people think it’s not beyond them – even if they have no real talent for anything. The creation of celebrities on so-called ”reality TV shows” means that simply seeking notoriety can get you lots of money.
There is no real responsibility that seems to come with such wealth. The media encourage the super-rich to live extravagantly – it’s seen as a sign of being “fun” and not taking life too seriously – and, of course, it sells papers. Nobody wants to read about ordinary people doing ordinary things. Lifestyles which are unobtainable for most people are those which are newsworthy.
What sort of values are being reinforced by all this? What are we being taught about the ways we should live? Selfishness, stupidity, vulgarity and exhibitionism are qualities which seem to be rewarded. We no longer admire people for what create or achieve for the wider benefit of humankind – instead we look up to those who seek to acquire and then squander their own personal fortunes. It’s enough to make you sick.
lyrics
Coveting the lives of the rich and famous is a new sport we play from an early age. Celebrity mags have become the new bible – showing us what to aspire to, and how to behave. The super-rich are modern role-models – obscene wealth is a mark of success. Vacuous celebrities are the new gurus – we’re encouraged to admire lives of excess. Is there anything on Earth quite as ugly as those who choose to flaunt their wealth, in a world where half the population are living in poverty and ill-health?

🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Loved this band for decades and it's great they're cracking on with the good work both creative and beautifully pleasant with a new vocalist.
Good shit innit 👏

Dead Cross, Retox, and Qui members dish out subversive hardcore with an indignant smirk; come for the riffs, stay for the synth experiments. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 31, 2024
