If you stand out from the crowd, then there’s often some idiot who’ll feel challenged by that and react with aggression and bullying. It’s a sign of their own insecurity and lack of freedom of thought. To reject the expected behaviour and attitude of your peers can be a tough thing to do in those circumstances. Many are simple dragged along with the gang, rather than risk being victimised for choosing another way.
But ultimately, to submit yourself to peer pressure rather than being yourself is no way to live. It isn’t going to properly stimulate or fulfill you - that can only come from being true to yourself. Break free.

I met a man today - I’d never met him before - he said he hated me, but I didn’t know why. He told me that I didn’t fit in. I asked why that bothered him. Maybe it was because I didn’t try. Oh, why do you hate me so? I find it hard to understand. All my life it’s been the same - I’ve never been one of the crowd. People would pick on me at school. Why? I was never sure. Perhaps I made them feel that they weren’t as important as they’d like to think – perhaps that made them a little bit insecure.
