In our relatively safe western homes, it is easy to forget the hell that some people in the world have to live with every day. Children are born into war zones where weapons and death are accepted as part of their normal existence - where pieces of discarded military equipment are likely to be so commonplace as to become toys.
At the present time there are about a dozen major wars taking place in the world, and many others lesser conflicts. Since the end of the Second World War, it is estimated that more than five million people (mainly civilians) have died in wars throughout the world - yet we in Britain only seem to realise that conflicts are taking place when our own troops are involved.
For the sake of the innocent, the people of the world need to find new ways to resolve their differences. If not, how many more are to die?
