It’s easy to drift along with the cultural flow of the societies we live in, and to hold theoretical opinions that we don’t really do anything about. But we should all be trying to live according to what we believe, to the extent that it’s practical to do so. I’m not saying that we should all live like monks. It’s hard to stay true to your beliefs whilst trying to exist in a modern, consumerist society, but we should at least all be questioning the choices we make in everyday life.
Political theory should not be divorced from the real lives that we live – if it is, then it’s meaningless. Our actions have consequences. We all need to have a greater consciousness about our impact on the Earth and its other inhabitants.
