about
Our economic system is squandering the planet’s finite resources, which are being turned into products that frequently nobody really needs. We’re told that we live in a “supply and demand” economy – that companies supply what the people demand, and that therefore somehow these business are only responding to what’s asked of them. But that’s not the whole story.
In reality, the public’s demands are manipulated by marketing and advertising which the businesses themselves generate. They sell us things to be the latest fashion, and then only a few months later, when they think they’ve saturated that market, they tell us that those same things are now out of fashion and that we must buy the next thing that they’ve produced. Whether it’s clothes, children’s toys, electronic gadgets, or whatever – we’re constantly being told that we need to throw the stuff we’ve only just bought and buy something new, unless we want to fall behind the times.
For as long as people are susceptible to this sort of manipulation by profit-hungry corporations the planet’s resources will be ravaged – because that is what consumer demands in turn demand of the World we live in. We are, quite literally, throwing away the Earth.
lyrics
They tell us they run our society on the economics of supply and demand, but what they fail to tell us is that our desires are already planned. The people who supply the goods, in order to satisfy their own greed, create fashions and demand for things that none of us really need. It’s a competitive society on which they rely, so that we will demand what they want to supply. Are you keeping up with the people next door? Don’t they have three cars? Maybe you should have four… In the interests of the money-men our desires are manipulated by trying to make us feel inadequate or that our clothes are too outdated. If you think that I’m not telling the truth, then perhaps you could explain to me who actually felt it was necessary to create half the things advertised on your TV. In a world of finite resources, there simply is no room for a society which cannot control its desire to consume. For our obsession with disposable junk we will pay a high price, because we have only one Earth and we can’t use it twice.

Dead Cross, Retox, and Qui members dish out subversive hardcore with an indignant smirk; come for the riffs, stay for the synth experiments. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 31, 2024
