about

Nations do not wage selfless wars. Their leaders are always motivated in their actions by their geopolitical ambitions and interests. Yet, in order to convince a sceptical public, they will frequently disguise those motives and dress them up as some sort of humanitarian intervention.
It is only by recognising these vested interests that we can understand why military action is pursued against some countries, but not others whose regimes are equally repellent to an objective mind. The UK government has propped up and traded with some despicably tyrannical countries in its recent history, yet tried to dress up it’s invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan as missions to liberate the people of those countries from despotic maniacs.
This is a pattern which has been repeated throughout history and across the world, right to the present day. Do you think that Putin could have persuaded young men to go to fight and die in Ukraine if he’d been honest about his motives or about the situation there? No. Instead, half-truths were blown out of proportion to present a distorted image of Ukraine as some sort of fascist state in which the people would welcome the arrival of Russian troops with open arms.
War propaganda is everywhere that armed conflict exists. When any government tries to claim a moral justification for the invasion of another country then we should all be aware that we’re not being told the whole story.

lyrics

Imports from the developing world
Often cost so little to buy.
The people there live in abject poverty -
Do you ever wonder why?

To ignore is to be ignorant
Of the true cost of our demands.

Exploited labour and resources -
Perhaps it goes without saying
That if we can get things for so little
Then someone else must be paying.
