about

Where did these muscle-bound knuckleheads in “hardcore” bands spring from? There’s a whole slew of bands whose primary objective seems to be to just appear as tough as possible – huge biceps and covered in tattoos, like wrestlers with guitars.
Although this is not new, it wasn’t always like this. The natural aggression of hardcore bands used to stem from a sense of injustice and anger. Now, for some people, it just seems to be an end in itself. The scene is a place where aggression can be respected, so it attracts those who are, in turn, attracted purely by aggression.
That’s not what we want to be. People shouldn’t be afraid of showing physical frailties or vulnerabilities, and we shouldn’t be creating an atmosphere within the scene in which some of us are physically intimidated by others. If you want to go to the gym to keep fit, then that’s fine. But bodybuilding to look tough? That’s bullshit. Put your biceps away – nobody wants to see them.

lyrics

We don’t care if we are skinny. We don’t care if we’re not tough. You stupid dickhead macho arseholes think it’s clever to act rough. We are wimps – and we couldn’t care less. You’re always pushing people around – talking hard and acting big. We don’t want to get tattooed or go to a “tough guy hardcore” gig. We are wimps – but at least we’re having fun. We don’t want to have big biceps. Bodybuilding’s a waste of time. Why should I want a different body? I’m quite happy enough with mine. We are wimps.
